The government’s recent announcement about the new Thriving Kids program has sparked a lot of questions for families. What does it mean? How will it impact your child’s care? Here’s everything we currently know and how we’ll support you through the changes.

What Is Thriving Kids?

Thriving Kids is the government's new $2 billion program designed for children with mild to moderate developmental delays and autism, who may not need intensive, lifelong support from the NDIS. It’s expected to launch by July 2026.

Here’s what matters for families right now:

  • No immediate changes: If your child is already on the NDIS, their supports will continue.
  • Gradual transition: New eligibility criteria will only apply once the program launches.
  • Right level of support: Children with more significant needs will remain on the NDIS.
  • Early intervention focus: Thriving Kids will provide services for children who don’t require the full scope of NDIS supports.
  • Not about reducing help: It’s about tailoring the system so every child gets the right support at the right time.

How We’ll Support You

At Provider Choice, our role is to stand with families, offering trusted support now and into the future, whatever changes come.  Here’s how we’ll support you:

  • Clear updates: You’ll hear from us in plain, jargon-free language as details unfold.
  • Step-by-step guidance: If your child transitions to Thriving Kids, we’ll be here to guide you and make the process smooth and stress-free.
  • Continuity of care: If your child stays on the NDIS, nothing changes  their current supports will continue.

Preparing for the Transition

While Thriving Kids won’t begin until mid-2026, here are a few simple steps you can take now:

  • Keep records up to date: Collect therapy reports and update assessments so your child’s needs are clearly documented.
  • Stay connected with providers: Many therapists and services will likely work across both systems, so keeping those relationships strong will help with continuity of care.

Looking Ahead

We know change can feel overwhelming. As Australia’s largest independent plan manager, our independence is our strength.  Giving us the flexibility to evolve with these changes and guide you seamlessly through the NDIS today and the Thriving Kids program when it arrives.

So, no matter what path your family takes, we’ll make sure you feel confident and supported.

You’ve got this and we’ve got you.
